BRICS brings together eleven major emerging markets and developing countries of the world: Brazil, China, Egypt, Ethiopia, India, Indonesia, Iran, Russia, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, and United Arab Emirates (UAE). It serves as a useful platform for consultation and cooperation on contemporary issues having global as well as regional significance, and issues of global political and economic governance.

The New Development Bank (NDB) is a multilateral development bank established by Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa with the purpose of mobilising resources for infrastructure and sustainable development projects in BRICS and other emerging market economies and developing countries (EMDCs). As of August 2026, NDB had 10 members: Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa, Bangladesh, UAE, Egypt, Algeria, and Uzbekistan.

The BRICS-NDB Knowledge Portal is a joint initiative of BRICS and NDB. The Portal aims to institutionalise the existing knowledge available across BRICS Working Groups by systematically compiling them in alignment with NDB priority areas and sharing good practices from NDB’s operations.

The proposal for the BNKP was first introduced during the first BRICS Finance and Central Bank Deputies (FCBD) Meeting, held on 26 February 2026 under India’s Chairship. It subsequently received broad support at the first Finance Ministers and Central Bank Governors (FMCBG) Meeting on 13 August 2026, marking the formal endorsement of the initiative by BRICS members.
The idea of consolidating and sharing knowledge within the BRICS framework has been deliberated in the BRICS meetings.

The NDB independently operates and maintains the Portal, while also engaging institutionally with successive BRICS Chairs.

The BNKP and the BTTNF are separate BRICS-related mechanisms with distinct purposes and institutional functions.
The BNKP, launched on September 10, 2026, is a dedicated Portal intended to facilitate knowledge sharing, cooperation, and access to relevant BRICS and NDB-related materials.
The BTTNF, established in 2022, is a network of BRICS research institutions, think tanks, and academic experts that undertakes research, prepares analytical outputs, and provides intellectual support on finance-related matters.
